Stephanie DeRiso Q&A

What are your favorite foods?
Trail mix and Diet Coke.
What is your favorite book?
Picking a favorite book would be impossible…I’m an avid reader! But anything by Chuck Palahniuk really hooks me.
What are your lifetime aspirations?
I want to join the U.S. Army and possibly enter the JAG program. If my life doesn’t go that route, I’d like to be a police officer. Either way, I’m having six kids and a happy life.
How did you get into women’s football?
I work with a non-profit called Warrior Cry, which seeks to help wounded soldiers through the use of music. The founder let me know about the upcoming tryouts, and I figured I’d give it a go. It turned out much better than I expected!
What was your biggest adjustment to playing women’s football?
The women! I’m used to breaking into boys’ clubs and being the only chick. These ladies are much more intimidating…and more dedicated!
If you could play any other position, which one would you choose? Why?
Linebacker…I want to hit people!
Why do you play women’s tackle football?
Women’s sports have never cut it for me, because they always felt like lame versions of the real game. Men’s ice hockey kept me satiated in high school, but now it’s time for another athletic challenge.
