Jessee Gawron Q&A

Who was your childhood idol? Why?
My father…he could play any sport – hockey, soccer, football, tennis, and basketball – with such ease. He kept me active as a child and ignited my interest in sports.
Who is your biggest supporter?
My girlfriend, Skye…she never gives up on me and is always encouraging me to go after what I want in life.
If you could have a conversation with anyone, dead or alive, who would you choose? Why?
My uncle Mike, who passed away in 2005…he is the one who ultimately taught me about football and told me that girls could be just as tough if not tougher than boys.
Who is your female sports idol?
Mia Hamm…injured or not, she would always play and never let her team down.
Who is your favorite NFL player? Why?
Rob Gronkowski of the New England Patriots…he inspired me to want to be a tight end who can defend the quarterback and can also break free from a defender and make receptions for possible touchdowns.
What are your favorite hobbies or special interests?
Working out, dancing, listening to music, and shooting hoops.
What is your favorite movie?
Pretty Woman.
What is your favorite TV show?
Law & Order: SVU.
What is your favorite travel location?
It used to be Maryland…until I moved!
What is your favorite book?
Along Came a Spider, by James Patterson.
Who is your favorite musician or group?
Chris Brown.
What is your favorite quote?
“Love the life you live. Live the life you love.”
How would you describe yourself in three words?
Initiator, active, quirky.
What are your lifetime aspirations?
To get my barbers’ license and eventually open my own shop.
What was the first sport you ever played?
Hockey, at age five.
What is your favorite sports memory?
My sophomore year of high school, I was playing varsity soccer. I became the first female goalie ever in a Chicago public high school to go the entire regular season without surrendering a goal. It’s a record that still stands to this day.
How did you hear about women’s football?
At Market Days in Chicago, the Chicago Force had a booth set up with information about their upcoming season in 2010. I signed up for updates on tryouts, but due to my employment at the time, I was unable to join. Years later, I got a call a week before Chicago’s season opener in 2015, asking if I was still interested in joining the team. I made it to practice the very next day, and I played my first game for the Force that same week.
Why do you want to play women’s football?
I love football…it is the most competitive sport out there for women. The adrenaline rush of the games and the camaraderie of the team are what keep me coming back for more!
What does it mean to you to be a D.C. Diva?
It means being a part of a respectable team that lifts and elevates the performance of an individual to heights never before achieved.
