Dr. David Higgins Bio

Dr. David Higgins was one of the D.C. Divas’ first team doctors in 2001. Dr. Higgins graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, played football and earned his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Catholic University, and received his medical degree from Georgetown University. He later served in the U.S. Navy Reserve and became the Chief of Sports Medicine for the Navy. As an orthopedic surgeon, he also founded his own practice, the Maryland Sports Medicine Center.

Dr. Higgins was the team physician for the athletic teams at Good Counsel High and American University. He assisted the U.S. softball team at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, began working with USA Basketball in 2000, and was named the Team USA head physician at the 2001 World University Games in Poland. Dr. Higgins would later serve as the U.S. National Field Hockey Team Director of Medicine in 2007, and the following year, he was a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee medical staff at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
