Coach Edward Smith Bio

Coach Edward Smith was born in Philadelphia and graduated from Park University in Missouri. He was an anti-terrorism special agent in the United States Army and had a highly-decorated career in the military.

“Smitty” attended a Divas practice and offered some advice to a player, who promptly replied, “If you think you can teach us better, then get off your fat a– and get out here!” Coach Smith accepted the challenge and joined the Divas in 2003 as an assistant coach.

Coach Smith drew upon his decades of playing rugby to assist the Divas with their tackling techniques. In 2005 and 2006, he teamed with Coach Jerome Davis to mold the Divas’ defensive line into a fearsome group. Smitty then spent two years as an assistant line coach, switching to the offensive side of the ball and back to defense.

In 2009, Coach Edward Smith assumed a position as quality control coach and videographer. Coach Smith would film every Divas game and scrimmage and break down game film. He would also perform advanced scouting on upcoming Divas opponents and assist the coaching staff in numerous other ways. Coach Smith became the first coach in 2012 to spend a decade on the Divas sidelines and served as an assistant to all four head coaches in Divas history.
