2016 Pigskin Club Posey Award

Quarterback Allyson Hamlin and defensive back Safi Mojidi were announced as the winners of the 2016 Posey Award, sponsored by the Pigskin Club of Washington, DC.

Allyson Hamlin, a 14-year football veteran, added to her incredible résumé in 2016 as one of the greatest quarterbacks in women’s football history. Hamlin set a career-high with 1,966 passing yards on the season while completing over 60 percent of her passes. She also set a franchise record with 28 passing touchdowns as she led the D.C. Divas to their second straight national championship victory. Hamlin is an 11-time all-pro who has thrown for over 15,000 passing yards and 236 touchdowns in her illustrious career. She is the first women’s football player ever to win three Posey Awards, having been previously honored in 2004 and 2013. Allyson Hamlin works for the Homicide Unit of the Prince George’s County Police Department, where she is the longest-tenured female officer in her unit.

Safiatu “Safi” Mojidi rewrote the D.C. Divas record books in her third season with the team. Mojidi set a franchise-record with seven interceptions in the 2016 season, shattering the previous record of five. She also recovered three fumbles; her ten takeaways on the year broke the previous team record of eight set by Vickie Lucas in her Posey Award-winning season of 2005. Mojidi’s best statistical game came on April 30, when her two interceptions and two fumble recoveries helped lead the Divas to a 52-7 victory over the Atlanta Phoenix. But perhaps her most important play of the season came the following week, when she intercepted a pass at the goal line as time expired to help the Divas preserve a 41-34 road victory over the Chicago Force. Safi Mojidi is an IT security professional in the D.C. area.

Since 2003, the Pigskin Club has annually awarded the Posey Award to outstanding women’s football players in the Washington, DC, region. The Pigskin Club will have their annual awards ceremony at the Washington Navy Yard Conference Center on February 17, 2017.
