2012 Pigskin Club Posey Award

Linebacker Trigger McNair and wide receiver Ashley Whisonant were the co-recipients of the 2012 Posey Award, presented by the Washington, DC, Pigskin Club.

Trigger McNair finished her 14th season of women’s football in 2012, and her season capped a remarkable comeback from injury. In the first quarter of the 2010 season opener, McNair tore three ligaments in her ankle which left her sidelined for over a year. But she returned to top form in 2012, being named a second-team All-American at the end of the year. Trigger McNair is the first defensive player in women’s football to win two Posey Awards, having previously won the award back in 2008.

Ashley Whisonant had a breakthrough season that established her as one of the best wide receivers in women’s football. She had 43 receptions in eight regular season contests, which ranked third in the league. Those 43 catches resulted in 662 yards and ten receiving touchdowns. For her efforts, Whisonant was named a first-team All-American for the first time in her career.

2012 is the tenth year in which the Pigskin Club of Washington, DC, is recognizing top women’s football players with the Posey Award. This year’s awards will be presented at the 75th annual Pigskin Club awards banquet, held on February 8, 2013, at the Capital Hilton Hotel.
